Long Creek Golf and Country Club Avonlea
It is difficult to find a public course in Saskatchewan that can compete with the Long Creek Golf and Country Club in Avonlea in terms of the authentic feel of a private country club. This gorgeous 18-hole prairie valley course is also hard to match in Saskatchewan when it comes to demanding golf at a decent price. The course is located in a valley.
Since its opening in the 1980s, Long Creek has been an incredibly popular destination despite its remote location four kilometres east of Avonlea and about 40 minutes south of Regina. In recent years – and especially with the construction of a contemporary clubhouse that spans 11,000 square feet in 1997 – it has emerged as a popular destination course for golfers from Southern Saskatchewan and the provinces that border it.
Long Creek has a distance of 6,419 yards from the tips and may seem like an easy course to play, but it is not. Greens are typically medium in size and provide a moderate degree of difficulty. There are a great number of narrow fairways and stream ravines on the course, both of which need to be traversed in order to get to the greens. Therefore, the patient shotmaker who is able to accurately assess the distances between targets and strike accurate shots would do well.
