A game of many names including “King’s cup” “Circle of death” and many other names depending on where you grew up. We refer to it as the Waterfall Drinking game! This game is designed to be played at parties or pre-parties and or get-togethers where the aim is to unwind and have a little fun.
If you play Cornhole the aim of the game is to win. With Waterfall, it is less of a competition game and more of a social experience there are no real winners or losers of the waterfall drinking game.
What is the Waterfall drinking game?
The perfect combination of drinking and cards to create a fun exciting parrot game. To set up the game of Waterfall you will need a deck of cards an empty glass or cup and plenty of beverages to go around. The beverage of choice does matter either and each person can enjoy their personal preference.
The waterfall is best enjoyed with a group and the more people in the group the more fun or more entertaining.
Put the cup in the middle of the table and place the cards around the cup face down at random. Each card will require a different act. Instruction. You might have to choose someone else to drink everyone might have to take a sip or it might be you have to take a drink.
What do you need?
Not much really which is what makes this game so fun and easy. You need a full deck of cards minus the jokers. The joker cards aren’t used typically but part of what makes this game fun is that you can create your own house rules and utilize them if you want!
Any type of playing cards will work but sometimes this game gets a little messy and can result in some sticky cards by the end of the evening. Our favourite cards are these waterproof cards which we can simply wipe down for many more games to come.
You can use one deck of cards or as many as your want really it will likely depend on the number of people playing.
This game is pretty chill in the sense that oftentimes people will have their own rules and groups of friends will really personalize the rules to ones they have found fun. If this is your first time playing you can use the rules listed below and go from there.
Each numbered card and the face cards as well as the aces will all have specific instructions associated with them. It doesn’t matter which card you pick up each will have a rule.
The purpose of the game:
I mean waterfall is a competition-based game it’s a drinking game… so the name of the game is to have fun get a little tipsy and let loose.
The game is easy to play at a party and is a great way for breaking the ice between new friends meeting for the first time.

The setup:
Pretty simple here. The game is best played on a table or even the floor. First place a glass or cup in the center of the group. Then take the deck of cards shuffle them and place them around the glass in somewhat of a circle. Make sure everyone is sitting around this cup card formation and has a beverage in hand that is full and likely more close by.
To start you will pick who goes first could be at random or the youngest or closest birthday it doesn’t really matter everyone will get their turn. Every player will choose one card per round and when it’s your turn you choose a random card and follow the instructions. If you do not have instructions already made up use the list we created below:
2: The player that drew the card makes another player take two sips of their drink
3: The player who picks the card must take 3 sips
4: The player who picks the card tells all girls to drink
5: The player who drew this card makes a dance move, the player beside must repeat the dance move and then add their own. This sequence continues until somebody fails and has to drink or the entire circle has a dance move added.
6: A six is drawn will require all the guys to drink
7: When a seven is drawn every player immediately reaches for the sky with no countdown. Last player to reach for the sky drinks
8: Choose a mate: the player who draws 8 picks another player to be his mate and every time he drinks the other must also drink
9: The player that drew this card says a word and then the player to the right says another word that rhymes and this continues around the table until somebody messes up which the player who messed up must drink.
10: Category- the player who draws this card picks a category. The other players in the circle take turns saying other words that fit this category. If you repeat a word you drink.
Jack: Thumbs- this player may put their thumb on the table at any given time until another jack is taken. When he or she puts their thumb on the table all others must follow the last player to notice and put their thumb on the table drinks.
Queen: Question master: the person who picks the queen can ask another player a question. That player can then ask another player a question. The first person to not answer the question must drink.
King: Rule card- the player who picks this card creates a rule for the table that will remain in effect until the end of the game.
Ace: IF you pick an ace all players drink!
Conclusion
There are many different rules and if you play with enough people everyone will have different rules. Listen to others that have different rules and create a game with all the rules you find the most fun! In our experience, different countries have different rules that nobody has heard of which is fun to bring to your friends back home!
